Becoming a Weekday Prepper

“You don’t know how to enjoy yourself. Americans, you work too hard; you get burned out. Then you come home and spend the whole weekend in your pajamas in front of the TV.”

I am well aware that starting a blog post with an Eat Pray Love quote all but admits that I am a middle-aged soccer Mom trapped in the body of a young man, but I couldn’t resist since the quote perfectly ties into the theme of today’s blog post.

One of my best friends visited me this weekend, and we reminisced about the time we did our best to shut down the use of an app on our college campus (and how we suppressed free speech in the process). The memory seemed pretty far fetched, so wanting to remember more of the details, I went back through my old journals and found an entry from August 2015 where I described our mission. Putting an End to My Grudges

Of all the goals that I set in October 2017, the one to “Put an end to any grudges” has intimated me the most. This is because I tend to cling to grudges with the vice-like grip of a toddler clutching their favorite toy. Knowing this as I planned the upcoming year’s goals, I decided to attempt to abolish this practice.

Riding in Silence for a Week

76 minutes. 5 days per week. No, I’m not referring to the amount of time that I do cardio each day; rather, I am talking about how long I drove in complete and utter silence. When devising my goals as a twenty-two-year-old, I thought about how much I rely on music to make time fly when I have to drive somewhere. Within a few seconds of getting into my car, I find myself plugging in my phone, turning on Spotify, and letting my mind zone out to the music. Music is by no means bad, but I thought that would be a good exercise in self-awareness to remove it from my commute for a week.
